After a programme Pergolesi versus Ligeti, performed in Geneva in 2015, the pleasure shared with all the musicians of the Pulcinella Orchestra made us want to do a follow-up to that experience. So we decided to commission a piece from a composer sensitive to our favourite repertoire in order to bring together these two passions that drive us: working closely with composers of our time and the historically-informed practice of the Baroque and Classical repertoires.

Philippe Hersant enthusiastically agreed to take up the challenge and chose to engage a post- modern dialogue with the brilliant cellist-composer Luigi Boccherini, around an extremely innovative work that had already inspired Luciano Berio: the quintet La Ritirata di Madrid.

The occasion for us to come back to this favourite composer after a first album for Naïve, hailed by the international critics.
